My neighbor of 38 years, Donna, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer six years ago and was given two years to live. She was able to participate in multiple clinical trials which have prolonged her life and mitigated the cancer. However, as a result of all the unknowns in clinical trials, she developed chemotherapy induced leukemia. The treatment for that was three weeks of inpatient heavy duty chemotherapy every month for three months. That happened last summer which has exhausted their resources.
Donna has been the sole caretaker for many years for her now 95 year old fragile mother. While hospitalized last year, she had to hire a 24/7 caregiver for her mother who could not be left alone. The average cost for a 24/7 caregiver in the San Francisco Bay Area is $500-600 per day.
Now Donna has been informed that unless she has a stem cell transplant, the leukemia will return. This treatment requires she be in the hospital for several months and when discharged will be too weak and fragile herself to perform her own activities of daily living--which certainly prevents her from taking care of her mother. It takes months post stem cell treatment to build blood levels up and acquire the stamina to be self sufficient enough to take care of herself. Both she and her mother will need caretakers.
Please donate any amount to help pay for caregiver expenses for three months. Please share this post with your friends, family, and community. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated.
