Brandon's Wish Upon A Star

Donation protected
Brandon James Johnson was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, type 1 and needs 24/7 homecare. Despite this, he graduated from Crestwood High School along with post-secondary credit from Kent State University. He is currently enrolled at KSU as an English major, with a minor in Creative Writing as he pursues the film industry. His passions include, film history, comic books and superhero’s, especially Wonder Woman. Her compassion and strength motivate Brandon to be the best self he can be along with helping others. With this, her stories let him escape into a different world than this one, in which he would normally be trapped in. With Brandon being in and out of the hospital since he was born he wrote a poem called “My Soul”. He speaks on the ups and downs of living a disabled life and it’s now published at the Wick Poetry Center, at KSU.

My name is Kira Judd and I have known Brandon for 11 years. We have been through a lot together including when he underwent surgery for a tracheotomy and a loss of our dear friend. Recently, he has been losing strength rapidly to the point where he is unable to feed himself. In hopes to gain strength back, he underwent back surgery this past May of 2019, to put in a port so he could receive a medication called Spinraza. When opening up his back, there were complications and he was unable to receive the medication he needs. He is looking into other medical options, including another surgery but is fearful of what the outcome may be.

With this in mind, observing the strength he does have, he is confident he can go on a trip but isn’t sure how much time he has left to do such a thing. Please help Brandon achieve this once-in-a-lifetime trip while he has the chance. His dream destination has always been Japan as he has been interested in the mythology and culture. We would leave a little before this upcoming Christmas and be back around New Years. This fundraiser would raise money for all of Brandon’s medical accommodations for the trip, including nursing, plane tickets, and hotels. Any additional donations will go toward a new handicapped accessible van, as his current one is unable to be fixed. We would be incredibly grateful for any donation amount, thank you all in advance for reading Brandon’s story.

With Love,
Kira and Brandon
