Hey, On Djarama, and Assalamu Alaykum.
We are Hadja B. and Salmana B. and we are the Co-Owners of Fula Love, LLC and Co-Host of the Fula Love Podcast. Fula Love was born out of meaningful conversations that allowed us to discover that we shared countless experiences as first-generation Fulani Americans. Those conversations and shared experiences grew into a community: a community where we learn more about our parents, our home countries, and the roles we would like to play in reuniting our greater communities.
Community is a powerful word we think about often, because it encompasses more than just the two of us and our Fulani culture. We are fortunate enough to be a part of the first-generation community, the black community, the African community, the Muslim community and every community. Regardless of the community we were born into, all of these communities have played a role in shaping our lives, molding us into the young women we are today, and guiding us to become the women we want to be. This is why supporting our communities is such an important part of Fula Love’s mission.
With Ramadan quickly approaching, we want to create an opportunity to make the most of this beautiful and blessed month by hosting our very first fundraiser!
The goal of this fundraiser is to support young students across Guinea, Gambia, Senegal, and Sierra Leone, who are dedicating their lives to memorizing the Qur’an and furthering their knowledge in Islam. Many of these students leave home at a very young age to live full-time at Islamic schools, and their families make incredible sacrifices to support their education. Unfortunately, most local masjids lack community support to help provide basic items, like kettles for wudu and mats or chairs to sit on.
Our first fundraising goal is $10,000, to help the schools and masjids purchase basic items to care for their students, so that they can continue their studies and memorize the Qur’an with focus, consistency, and support, and to support the Fula Love team in continuing to create meaningful content and opportunities to support our communities. Stay tuned for more information on our community-wide barbecue at the end of Ramadan inshallah!
The Prophet ﷺ was most generous during Ramadan, and sadaqah in this month carries multiplied reward. Whether you can give or not, your intention matters. Make du’a, share this message, and if you are able, give sincerely.
This Ramadan, let your sadaqah support those carrying the Qur’an and strengthen our Ummah.
