Hello and welcome! I’m Mike Rice, a producer of 'A Trailblazer's Legacy', an independent not-for-profit documentary short film about the extraordinary life of Canadian racecar driver Kathryn "Kat" Teasdale. My experience in marketing, motorsport public relations, and advocacy for mental health issues drew me to Kathryn’s profound story.

While I have co-produced live-streamed motorsport-focused interview segments and live-streamed concerts, this is my first documentary project.

In June 2016, I had the solemn privilege of attending the celebration of Kathryn "Kat" Teasdale’s life, where I witnessed firsthand the profound impact she had on so many. From her father, I learned how her love for cars and auto racing began, and how her passion extended beyond the track to philanthropy.

Kat Teasdale wasn’t just a racecar driver—she was a trailblazer, a fighter, and a fierce advocate for kids who needed a voice. From humble beginnings in Canadian grassroots racing, Kat climbed through the ranks of North American motorsport, competing in IMSA, Indy Lights, and the NASCAR Busch Series. But her story goes far beyond the racetrack.

Kat navigated early gender bias with grit and grace, fought tirelessly for sponsorship, and used her platform to champion children with disabilities and chronic illness. She empowered women to feel confident in automotive spaces and quietly endured the debilitating effects of Lyme disease, all while inspiring countless others to chase their dreams.

We’re creating a not-for-profit 20-minute short biographical film, A Trailblazer’s Legacy, to honour Kathryn’s extraordinary life. Through donated archival race footage and photos, intimate interviews, stylistic reenactments and heartfelt narration, this film will celebrate her courage, compassion, and resilience. It’s a story of reinvention, representation, and rising above adversity—one that deserves to be told now more than ever.

A dedicated team of researchers, advisors, and creators, featuring a Canadian Juno & Grammy-winning sound engineer, mixer, and music producer, has played a crucial role in advancing this project thus far.
