As a bird owner and profound animal lover, this project is deeply personal to me. Birds are incredibly sensitive to the environments we create, and they are often the first to suffer when cities grow faster than nature can keep up. In Texas, as our cities expand, habitat loss, window strikes, light pollution, and disappearing green spaces threaten the birds that have shared our communities long before we arrived. This project exists to change that, starting right here in Frisco.
I am creating a research-driven, community-powered proposal to help the City of Frisco pursue Bird City Texas certification: a statewide program led by Audubon Texas and Texas Parks and Wildlife that gives cities a clear framework to protect birds and their habitats. But this is about more than a title; it’s about choosing coexistence. As Frisco prepares for the international spotlight during the upcoming FIFA World Cup, we have a chance to show that growth and environmental responsibility can exist together. Where birds thrive, people prosper. Your support helps turn care into action and ensures the birds who share our skies continue to have a place here.
The funds raised will be used to analyze Bird City Texas certification criteria, evaluate Frisco’s current alignment, and identify actionable strategies for policy, education, and habitat protection. I will translate scientific and legal conservation concepts into accessible educational and visual storytelling materials for public and civic engagement - through presentations at local elementary schools, to the Frisco City Council, and to social groups of diverse backgrounds. The final product will be a Bird City Texas Readiness & Action Portfolio for the City of Frisco, including a detailed proposal, action plan, educational resources, policy recommendations, and a cross-walk table of city ordinances. This professional-grade portfolio will empower environmental organizations, community stakeholders, and city officials to make meaningful policy changes for birds and people alike.
If you believe our city can grow while still protecting the wildlife that shares it with us, I would be incredibly grateful for your support. Every contribution helps turn research, education, and compassion into real change for birds in Frisco.
