Update as of 3/27 AM: the past 48 hours have been a whirlwind! We are in awe of all the support we’ve received both on here and privately! Thank you so much to everyone!!!—- since we were faced with the heartbreaking update on the evening of 3/25, Frida has been improving at a miraculous rate! With her improvement means, she gets to come home sooner than the week originally estimated on 3/25 PM. As of now she may only need 1-2 extra night in hospital, which is the best news we’ve received! Her road to recovery will be a long one, but it looks like she’ll be able to do the rest of her recovery at home.—- we’ve updated our goal to reflect her good news, thank you so much again to everyone!
Hi Everyone,
Frida and us are in desperate need of your help!
Frida, our sweet 5 year old cat, is fighting for her life and we are doing all we can to give her a fighting chance to come back home.
On 3/21 we rushed Frida to UC Davis emergency vet hospital and we were told she was experiencing heart failure, high probability of heart disease and possibly dealing with a vicious and rapid onset of cancer- we were suggestively advised to euthanize her. We held on to hope and proceeded to opt for treatment. She was placed in an oxygenated incubator and we hoped for better once test results were ready. The next day we were informed that her heart was in fact not the cause of her illness and the chance of her having cancer is med to low. She was diagnosed with an infection. One that has us all puzzled, as Frida had been to UC Davis just 2 weeks prior for a dermatology visit and presented to be in good health outside of her chronic itch (Frida has been itchy her entire life, we were on track to finally getting her itch free). This mysterious infection took over Frida rapidly, presenting a swollen mass on her belly, causing her breathing to become abnormal, her heart to begin to fail. On 3/23 the doctors were confident that Frida is not dealing with cancer and could overcome the infection as long as her breathing would stabilize and she could be weaned off oxygen. On 3/24, Frida's 5th birthday, we were told she would need a few more days of oxygen therapy and she would receive a blood transfusion. On the evening of 3/25 we were informed that it may take longer than we originally hoped to get Frida off oxygen, but the doctors remain confident that Frida will recover.
We have hit our financial limit for Frida's care. If we can not afford oxygen for up to a week longer, we will lose our sweet little girl! Each day on oxygen is $2,000.
Frida and her brother Dali are our world! We cant imagine life without her. Your support means the world to us!
With all the gratitude in our hearts,
Edgar, Celeste & Dali
