Hi everyone,

My name is Laura, and I’m a resident physician (intern) currently training full-time. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for my sweet 18-month-old cat, Freyja.

Freyja was recently diagnosed with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, also known as avascular necrosis of the femoral head. This rare and painful condition affects the hip joint, causing the bone to deteriorate due to a lack of blood flow. As a result, Freyja is now in constant discomfort and has difficulty walking, playing with her brother, and doing all the things a young, spirited cat should be able to do.

The only real solution to relieve her pain and give her a full, happy life is surgery — specifically, a femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO). The cost of this procedure, along with the associated veterinary visits, medication, and recovery care, is more than I can manage on my resident’s salary. I’ve done everything I can this past year to prepare for emergencies, but I never imagined something like this would happen to my girl.

Freyja has been my constant companion through the chaos and exhaustion of medical training, not to mention she got me through my first few months of Evan's Syndrome. She’s a gentle, affectionate, and resilient little soul who brings so much joy and comfort to my life. I want to do everything in my power to give her the life she deserves — pain-free and full of love.
