Help Freshta Hemmati Overcome Debt from a Fraud Scam
Donation protected
We are raising money to help Freshta Hemmati recover from a crushing debt from an internet scam. Friends and community know Freshta as a responsible, hardworking young woman, someone who helped to support her mother and siblings from the time she arrived in the US from Afghanistan as a child. Freshta started working at a young age, helping her mother at the city market as a food vendor. She also worked part-time at Keswick Hall while she was in high school. With her first paycheck, Freshta purchased a sofa set for her family.
Freshta is currently eighteen years old. After graduating from Albemarle High School, she has been living and working on her own since last year, while taking classes to advance her education at Piedmont Virginia Community College. Unfortunately, her kind and trusting personality led her to be victimized by a stranger online who left her owing her bank $14,000. After giving the bank all of her savings, she still owes $11,000 to the bank, which must be paid in full by October 28, 2024.
We believe that Freshta has a bright future, but also that this insurmountable debt can derail that future, and so are asking for contributions to help her pay off the amount she owes her bank and move forward. The burden of this debt is too great for someone so young to bear. She has explored every available option (filing a police report as a victim of fraud, appealing to the bank for assistance and a payment plan, consulting attorneys about bankruptcy filing) to no avail. She is left completely overwhelmed and horrified by the situation at hand and needs our help.
Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and support during this challenging time in Freshta's life. With a little help from each of us, we can make a life-changing difference in this young lady's life.
With heartfelt gratitude,
