Help Free Will Kim from ICE Detention

Donation protected
Tae Heung “Will” Kim, a 40-year-old lawful permanent resident, has called Texas home for over 35 years since arriving in the U.S. at age five. Will is a beloved son, brother, and PhD candidate at Texas A&M University, where he is recognized for his research on Lyme disease and respected by his professors and peers. On July 21, 2025, after returning from his brother’s wedding in South Korea, Will was detained by U.S. immigration authorities at San Francisco airport. Despite being a green card holder and meeting all legal requirements related to an old nonviolent conviction from 14 years ago, Will was denied due process, legal counsel, and humane treatment—including access to his asthma medication—raising urgent human rights concerns.

Will’s case embodies urgent issues of due process and fair treatment for immigrants—rights that protect us all. He is not just an outstanding scholar and scientist, but a member of our community whose life, talents, and health are at risk due to an arbitrary act of detention. Donations are managed transparently and go directly to covering legal and emergency needs, with the oversight of trusted legal representatives. Supporting Will is standing up for basic justice, dignity, and the values we share.

Your support can truly change a life and uphold fundamental principles of fairness and humanity. By standing with Will, you are telling him—and the world—that no one should be disappeared or denied their rights, and that our community stands up for its own. Every contribution brings Will closer to freedom and the future he has worked so hard to build.

This fundraiser was launched by Will’s brother in response to his sudden and unjust detention. The immediate goal is to raise funds for expert legal representation, bond fees if required, and essential living and medical expenses during and after detention. The situation is urgent, as Will’s health and rights are at risk, and immediate legal action is needed to advocate for his release and ensure he can return to his family, community, and research—where he belongs. Any surplus funds will be used to support emergency assistance for others facing similar injustices.

Your support will help secure Will’s freedom, protect his health, and uphold his rights. Every contribution brings us closer to reuniting Will with his loved ones and allowing him to continue his important work in the community.
