Hello, my name is Sadaf, and I am an Afghani girl living in the UK. I am reaching out to you in a time of profound urgency. For the last three years, girls and women in Afghanistan have been living like prisoners. Schools, universities, gyms, parks—everything has been banned for them. My sister is one of those girls who couldn’t go to school, who couldn’t learn, or even hope for a better future.

But my father believed in her right to an education. He believed that every girl should have the chance to learn and grow. Despite knowing the risks, he borrowed money from friends, family and spent everything he had to help my sister to secure the student visa and leave Afghanistan and come to the UK, where she could go to school and have a bright future.

Because my father acted against the Taliban’s beliefs—that girls and women should not be educated and must stay at home after elementary school—they arrested him. They believe he should not have helped my sister seek an education. Now, he is imprisoned by the Taliban. His health is getting worse because he has a heart condition, and the months in prison have been very hard on him, all because he believed his daughter deserved an education.

Without my father, our family is struggling. My mother is alone, caring for my younger siblings. My youngest sibling is only 7 months old and needs a lot of care, which is difficult in these unsafe conditions. Every day is a challenge just to find food and stay safe.

We have come together to launch this fundraiser with two goals in mind: to help secure my father’s release and to relocate my family to safety. The funds will cover legal costs, a release payment to secure his freedom, and any other costs needed to bring him home. They will also be used to help us relocate to a safer place where they can live without fear.

My father is a hero. He put his life in danger for his daughter’s future. Please help us bring him home and protect our family. Your generous contributions will go directly towards securing my father’s release and ensuring the safety of my family, who are currently living in fear and danger.
