Maryam Tahmasebi and her family have been valued members of our community since 2014, and have been living in the US as legal residents with green cards. On April 11, without warning, Maryam, her husband Eissa, and their teenage son were detained by ICE. They have now been held for nearly a month, enduring a situation that is both unjust and deeply distressing. They are respected professors, contributing to their colleges and communities, and have always abided by the law, with not so much as a speeding ticket. This detention is not only a violation of their rights, but also a devastating blow to the lives they have built for over 12 years in the United States as legal residents. It is especially devastating that their son - a minor and a child - has been detained and is missing high school and time with his friends.
We are raising funds to help cover the legal representation and other urgent costs related to their detention. Any support means the world to us. Maryam, Eissa, and their son are ordinary people with no money or power, and your help can make a real difference in their fight for justice and freedom. Please join us in standing up for their rights and demanding their immediate release. Your generosity and solidarity are deeply appreciated.
The beneficiary of this fundraiser is Emily Shokouh, to whom Maryam and Eissa have granted power of attorney.
