“Lorena” (not actual name) is a close friend of mine, she came to the United States seeking political asylum with her 2 children. She was a victim of state violence in her home country and was re traumatized last week when ICE agents kidnapped her mother and her little 11 yr old sister at their court hearing in L.A. They are currently being held at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas.

Even though she is unable to work due to not having a work visa yet, "Lorena" has been trying to raise funds to free her family by selling food and putting together raffles, all while raising her 2 children in a new and strange country.

I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone else would like/is able to donate to my friend's cause. Sadly this story is all too common. Professionals believe it will cost $8,000 to free her mother and sister.

My friend has asked that I keep her anonymous because her immigration case is still open. She does not want to risk being kidnapped as well.

“Lorena” (nombre ficticio) es una amiga cercana. Llegó a Estados Unidos buscando asilo político con sus dos hijos. Fue víctima de violencia estatal en su país de origen y la semana pasada volvió a quedar traumatizada cuando agentes de ICE secuestraron a su madre y a su hermana pequeña de 11 años en su audiencia judicial en Los Ángeles. Actualmente se encuentran recluidas en el Centro Residencial Familiar del Sur de Texas en Dilley, Texas.

Aunque no puede trabajar por no tener aún una visa de trabajo, “Lorena” ha estado vendiendo comida y organizando rifas para liberar a su madre y hermana, todo mientras cría a sus dos hijos en un país nuevo y desconocido. Los profesionales que están ayudando a mi amiga con los casos de sus familiares calculan que costará $8,000 liberar a su madre y hermana.

Lamentablemente, esta historia es demasiado común.

Mi amiga me pidió que cambiara su nombre porque su caso de inmigración sigue abierto. Ella no quiere arriesgarse a que la secuestren también.
