Imprisoned By a Corrupt Lawyer
My name is Ernest Edwards, and I am the voice for my Father, who is fighting for his life, freedom, and dignity. My Dad was sentenced to time in prison for his case's mishandling by a negligent and incompetent attorney. Michael Cheselka is a well-known Cleveland criminal defense attorney who has been suspended from practicing law for mishandling several client cases, including my Father, and has formally resigned his law license. The Ohio supreme court gave Michael Cheselka the option to make his wrongs right, which would have given him the ability to keep his license and practice law again, but this would include him focusing on doing right by the people he represented. Cheselka was asked to complete a counseling program and repay the money to his clients and their families for their cases' mishandling. However, the records filed with the court show Cheselka applied to resign his license with the Attorney services office on December 10th, 2014, without facing the families of his clients who are serving life sentences for his negligence. Also, Cheselka stated that his reason for missing deadlines or filing paperwork on behalf of his clients was due to depression with his parents' death.

In reading the attached article, we find that the Supreme Court still found a light at the end of the tunnel to give Cheselka a second chance. After finding out about Cheselka's wrongdoing in my Fathers case and others, a ray of hope gave me the courage to advocate for my Fathers freedom to have a second chance. What would this light of hope do in a situation like this? It means that Love just met injustice and that the journey to freedom is not just a dream anymore. I vow to take this journey knowing that it will not be easy, but ready to meet failure face to face. We all have a fear of failure or failing someone, and that is what Cheselka did to our family and my Father when he took all of our money with false representation. However, with my strong family upbringing and recognizing who God is in my life, the word failure has become my motivation to fight and shine a light on darkness that will bring joy back to our family. Love has pushed me into faith, and although I can't see my Father every day and embrace him with a hug, I will put all my trust in the Father, who will carry me through this process, knowing that this prayer will sustain my family until justice prevails.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
On earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. AMEN
