Standing for Curtis Wright, and for Every Man Wrongfully Held

My name is Danelle, and I never imagined I would be writing something like this.

We are fighting for Curtis Wright, a Canadian-born, lawful U.S. permanent resident who has been detained by ICE since November 6, 2025. But this GoFundMe is not only about Curtis. It is about the thousands of men just like him who are being held in detention centers across this country, many of them separated from their families, with no clear end in sight.

Curtis is my future son-in-law. He and my daughter share a beautiful baby girl, and he is a devoted father to two young boys from his previous marriage. He came to the United States as a minor with his parents and has lived here for nearly 40 years. This is his home.

Yet for over 100 days, Curtis has been held in ICE detention.

He was stopped at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston after returning from a business trip to Mexico. Despite being a lawful permanent resident with decades-old misdemeanor charges that were fully adjudicated, immigration officials detained him to challenge his green card status in court.

Since that night, our family’s world has been turned upside down.

Curtis has been transferred between multiple detention facilities — shackled for long periods, sleeping on concrete floors without proper bedding, missing court dates without explanation, and losing personal belongings during transfers. His commissary funds have been wiped out more than once. Hearings have been delayed. Medical care and medications are inconsistent.

But even in the middle of this nightmare, Curtis has not lost who he is.

He shares what little he has with other detainees, food, water, basic necessities. Family and friends send funds and books not only for him, but for the men around him who have no one. Many cannot afford drinking water or extra food. Many have no outside support at all.

Curtis tells us he is not surrounded by “the worst of the worst.” He is surrounded by fathers, workers, and good men, people separated from their families and pressured toward self-deportation out of exhaustion and fear.

And still, Curtis thinks about helping others.

That is why this fundraiser is not just about attorney’s fees, though those costs are significant. It is also about helping the other men who are being held without resources, without visibility, and without a voice.

If Curtis is deported to Canada, our daughter and baby granddaughter will face costly relocation. He would risk losing custody of his sons. The ripple effects on our family are devastating.

His baby girl asks for her daddy every day. She carries a small plastic photo frame with his picture inside so she can see his face. She does not understand why he isn’t home.

It is heartbreaking.

We are working toward:

Covering mounting legal expenses

Supporting commissary needs for Curtis and other detainees

Funding advocacy efforts, including a trip to Washington, D.C., to speak out about what is happening inside these facilities

Curtis’s story has been covered by Newsweek and the Galveston Daily News, but media attention alone does not bring him home.

He can fight with everything he has, and still be deported.

We are asking for your help.

Whether you contribute financially, share this page, or simply say a prayer, we sincerely appreciate any and all support.

This is about one man.
One father.
One fiancé.
One family.

But it is also about justice, dignity, and compassion for so many others who do not have a platform.

Thank you for standing with Curtis and the others men wrongly detained.
