We are raising urgent funds to help secure the release of “E,” a young asylum seeker from Africa who is currently detained at Delaney Hall Immigration Detention Center in Newark, N.J.
E just turned 20 years old, yet he has already spent more than a year in immigration detention after entering the United States in 2025 to seek refuge. He arrived when he was only 18 years old, fleeing a country where his life was at severe risk. E has now spent two birthdays in immigration custody. E’s asylum case was denied, and he now faces deportation to the very place he fled, despite credible fear for his safety. He remains detained with no release date in sight, languishing in a system that has stripped him of freedom, stability, and hope. Prolonged immigration detention is especially traumatic for young people. At an age when most are building their education, careers, and futures, E has endured isolation, uncertainty, and psychological distress. The length and conditions of his detention raise serious legal and humanitarian concerns.
Why We Are Asking for Help:
We are seeking funds to file a writ of habeas corpus, a critical legal action that challenges the lawfulness, length, and conditions of E’s detention. A habeas petition can ask a federal court to review whether the government has the legal authority to continue holding him and, importantly, can lead to his release from detention.
Legal representation in immigration detention cases is costly, and detained individuals have no guaranteed right to a government-appointed attorney.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
• Filing and litigating a habeas corpus petition
• Attorney fees and legal costs
• Supporting efforts to secure E’s release while his case continues
• How You Can Help:
• Your contribution, no matter the amount, brings E one step closer to freedom.
By donating, you are:
• Standing up against indefinite and prolonged detention
• Protecting a young person from further trauma
• Helping ensure due process and accountability under the law
E came to the United States seeking safety and a chance to live without fear, but he has been confined behind bars from the moment of his arrival in Texas. His travels from Africa took months, and the dangers he faced were formidable. He is a courageous, intelligent young man with the best smile ever and a kind and generous spirit. With your help, we can give him that chance. Please donate and share this campaign. Time is critical!
