With a heavy heart and with some misplaced embarrassment, I must ask for assistance to cover legal fees. In 1996 I was unlawfully beaten by several Chelsea police officers and false charges were placed on me to protect the officers' false integrity. I was able to fight and succeed in clearing my name of all the fabricated charges. Unfortunately, one prevailed, resisting arrest. In the mind of the jurors, it was their belief that anyone being falsely arrested would not go willingly even though I was not given the chance due to the brute force administered by the police officers. After serving two years of probation the case was closed in 1998.
Before the incident in 1996 and to this present day, I have been a consistent contributor to my community through my work and personal relationships with adults, young adults, and children in Boston and beyond. Eight years ago, although I do not like guns, I opted to obtain my firearm license to protect my family due to the state of our world. After attempting to renew my license in September of 2020, to my surprise, I was contacted by the Boston Police Department informing me that my gun license renewal was being denied because of my resisting arrest charge twenty-five years ago, in 1996 -- the case that was closed in 1998, the case that I served two years of probation for. Unbeknownst to me, I'm told that my file indicates that I must complete one-hundred and twenty hours of community service, and the only way I can regain my license is if I am able to take this matter to court and have the resisting arrest charge changed to "continued without a finding".
I never expected that I would have to deal with this traumatizing experience again. The chapter was closed. I not only desire to fight this to renew my firearm license but to prevent this atrocity from being a hindrance as I move forward in my life for something that I never did. If you could find it in your heart to support me in this unfortunate challenge that has blindsided me, I would forever be grateful, thankful, and continue to be the positive contributor to society that I've always been.
I am currently inquiring with a few law firms and expect to retain an attorney in the coming weeks.
Any donation amount is valued & greatly appreciated.
Peace & Blessings, Kings & Queens!
Sincerely,
Frederick Gomes
