Help Fred Thrive: Relocation for Recovery

Dear friends and compassionate souls,

I'm reaching out to you with a plea for help for my older brother, Fred. Just a few weeks ago, Fred underwent life-saving heart surgery in Phoenix. While he's on the road to recovery, his journey is far from over.

Fred's living situation is precarious. He's been bravely living off the grid since retiring, embracing a simple and self-sufficient lifestyle. However, his remote location outside of Phoenix lacks the essential amenities for his recovery, particularly in the scorching Arizona heat. With limited access to medical facilities and the inability to afford air conditioning for his RV, Fred's health and well-being are at real risk. He’ll be 75 in July.

Fred originally traveled to Arizona to get his RV repaired, planning to spend only five days there. However, during that time, he contracted COVID-19 and nearly died. After beginning to recover, he was struck by another devastating condition: Valley Fever. This illness, which is very prevalent in Arizona, went undiagnosed for over a year. It attacks every organ in the body and leaves sufferers with extremely low energy. Finally receiving treatment for Valley Fever, Fred was on the mend when he began experiencing severe heart arrhythmia, leaving him short of breath and only able to walk short distances.

What was supposed to be a brief trip to Arizona has stretched into nearly five years. His savings have been wiped out, as he has not been able to work due to his health issues. Now, with his heart surgery behind him, Fred faces the urgent need to relocate to a milder climate like Colorado to continue his recovery and regain his life.

Fred needs $25,000 to cover essential expenses:
1. RV Repairs: Fred's RV, his humble abode, requires repairs to ensure it's roadworthy for the journey ahead. These repairs are vital for his safety and comfort during the relocation process.
2. Moving Costs: Relocating to Colorado involves expenses such as gas, lodging, and potentially hiring assistance to transport his belongings safely.
3. Groceries and Immediate Needs: With limited income from social security, Fred needs support to cover basic necessities like groceries until he can establish himself in his new community and find a job.
4. Prescription Medicine. Fred needs a number of medications that are not fully covered by Medicare. Those costs currently run about $500 per month.

Fred's resilience and determination inspire us all. He majored in psychology and has always had a keen interest in psychology, world history, and geopolitics. Over the years, Fred has worn many hats: psychiatric aide at Menninger's, commercial flight instructor, private chauffeur traveling across the U.S., real estate agent, school bus driver in Colorado for 20 years, and a volunteer driver for hurricane Katrina rescue efforts. Fred is also a highly skilled handyman, adept at electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work, and possesses strong mechanical skills for automotive repairs. He will have no trouble finding work once he gets back on his feet.

Fred's easy-going manner and hard-working nature have earned him the admiration of many. He gets along with everyone and is known for his generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He shares his RV with his beloved cat, Gato, who has been a loyal companion through thick and thin.

Here’s what a few people have to say about Fred:
"Fred is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back. When Hurricane Katrina hit, he didn't hesitate to volunteer as a driver to help rescue efforts. He worked tirelessly over extremely long hours and made a huge difference for everyone." – Katrina Rescue supervisor

"I’ve known Fred for years, and his skills as a handyman are unmatched. He fixed my plumbing and electrical issues more times than I can count, always with a smile on his face. Now it’s our turn to help him." – Former Colorado neighbor

“Fred is a unique individual who takes life as it comes. Whatever happens, he just keeps on going. That spirit and his high energy made a big difference for our team of school bus drivers in Boulder---we knew we could always count on him.” - Fellow bus driver

Fred humbly shares, "I'm pretty much the last one to ask for help, though I have always been ready to help others. The current situation is unsustainable, and I'm humbly asking for help to urgently relocate to a better climate where I can recover my health and get back to work. Anything you can spare will be deeply appreciated."

Your generosity can make a profound difference in Fred's life, offering him the chance to thrive in a more supportive environment. Please consider donating whatever you can to support Fred's journey to recovery and a brighter future. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to ensuring Fred's well-being and security.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, compassion, and support.

Warm regards,
David Chard
