Franklin the Frenchton (French Bulldog & Boston Terrier mix) just celebrated his first birthday on July 27th, and I am hoping to give him the gift of a full life. After losing my job due to the pandemic, and as a single mother, I have already been struggling financially and unfortunately I will not be able to save him without help. I have outlined his serious but fixable heart condition below, a condition that causes heart failure and possible sudden death, along with some more information about our family.
Franklin loves following his cats around the house, learning new tricks and spending hours curled up with Agatha, our six-year-old rescued greyhound. He also enjoys playing games with his human brother and hiding shoes when he thinks no one is looking.
After a heart murmur was detected during a check-up, Franklin was seen by the cardiology team at Metro Veterinary Associates and diagnosed with pulmonic stenosis - a congenital heart defect that obstructs blood flow from the right side of his heart. Franklin’s condition has been graded severe and he is at very high risk for congestive heart failure along with other complications. He may also experience sudden death due to heart arrhythmia if his condition is untreated. While we try to raise money for his surgery, he is taking a beta blocker to keep his heart rate down and lower his blood pressure. The only way to actually remedy his condition is a costly surgical procedure called a balloon valvuloplasty to be completed at Penn Vet’s Ryan Veterinary Hospital. The cardiologist has recommended we proceed with the procedure as soon as possible before he begins showing any other symptoms. We are thankful that at this time, he is not experiencing pain or discomfort, but we know we have to act soon. His full diagnostic report can be found at the bottom of this page along with additional pictures and videos.
Franklin has given us hope and helped us to remain positive during these extraordinary times, and we are committed to doing absolutely everything we can to help him. He has so much more life to live and love to receive.
Your cherished donations will go towards our immediate goal which includes the balloon valvuloplasty procedure, initial follow-up appointments, relevant medications and the cardiologist appointment where we received the diagnosis.
Thank you for your time and thank you for your help. I will continue to regularly update everyone with his progress.
Much love to you.
