On December 25, 2024, my 16-year-old nephew, Frankie Mendez Jr., was taken to the Emergency Room with flu-like symptoms. He was quickly transported to Children’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia called Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia (MPAL), which is a combination of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). After over 14 days in the ICU, Junior remains critically ill and faces a long recovery ahead. Given the rarity of MPAL, there is limited research on its treatment and diagnosis. However, we are hopeful as the doctors work tirelessly to combat this illness. Junior’s case will contribute to future studies, potentially helping other children facing similar battles. As we navigate these challenges, we are reaching out to family, friends, neighbors, and our community for support to help cover Junior’s medical and family expenses. Your kindness means the world to us. Thank you, and God bless. His parents, Frankie and Ruthie Mendez are the beneficiaries of the account.
