Hi, my name is Chrissy and I am fundraising for Frankie Fleming. She is a friend of mine and was diagnosed with her third battle of cancer of November 3, 2021. Here is her story...Frankie was first diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 1993. She was diagnosed from a yearly checkup. Two days after being diagnosed they admitted her to the hospital for a full hysterectomy and to begin chemo. She had to have 3 months of chemo and has never had another issue with that diagnosis. In July of 2018 she was diagnosed with Stage 1 Non Small Cell Lung Cancer. She finished 3 rounds of chemo and radiation. On December 1, 2018 she was told she was in full remission. In early September of 2021 she started having a bad cough, shortness of breath and fatigue. She went to the doctor and was treated for an upper respiratory infection. The symptoms got worse so her doctor ordered labs that came back with her white blood cell count being 14000. Once your white blood cell count passes 11000 it is considered alarming. Due to her medical history her doctor wanted her to see her Oncologist. On November 1 she saw her Oncologist who ordered some tests and a PET scan. November 3 she was diagnosed with Non Small Cell Lung Cancer Stage 2b and that it had also spread into her bronchial tubes. The Oncologist told her she has a 20% survival rate and immediately started treatment. She has to have an uncommon type of radiation called Targeted Brachytherapy where they insert a tube up her nose that allows them to target the radiation to the cancer in her bronchial tubes and lungs 3 times a week. She is also on a daily chemo pill called Tagrisso. Unfortunately after starting her new job that doesn’t offer insurance benefits she has to pay monthly for private insurance and the cost of the medication is not covered with her insurance. She has a nurse case manager that works to find different ways of her being able to afford treatments and medications. But, after receiving her first bill for her treatments the cost is astronomical and she now has to sacrifice anything that is not a necessity in her life and is living paycheck to paycheck. This is a very scary for her as she also does not have life insurance with her new job. She is such a sweet and beautiful friend and I hate to see her go through this.
