Help Us Fight for Frankie

Our world changed on November 6th. What began as a terrifying medical emergency quickly became every parent’s worst nightmare. My sweet 11-year-old grandson, Frankie, was rushed to the ER by ambulance from school after a 25-minute seizure. Frankie has been diagnosed with NORSE (New-Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus) — a rare, severe, and life-threatening condition that causes relentless seizures with no clear cause and only a few cases ever to be reported in the world.

Frankie and his parents have been in the hospital ever since, watching him battle hour after hour, day after day. No parent is ever prepared to see their child connected to machines, undergoing endless tests and procedures, and fighting a battle so unfair and so unimaginable. His parents, myself, and many others sit by his bedside, holding his hand, praying for progress, praying for strength, praying for one more day of hope.

NORSE is unpredictable, aggressive, and devastating. Frankie’s treatments are intense, long-term, and will be overwhelmingly expensive. While we focus everything we have on staying strong for him, I wanted to help out my daughter and her husband be there for Frankie as much as they possibly can. We never imagined we would need to ask for help — but right now, we can’t do this alone.
