Frank is so much more than a dog to us—he is family and a loving companion whose greetings take all the day's troubles away.

He also has this way with people that make them feel special!

When we take our daily walks through the neighborhood, he stops at certain houses and waits at the doors to greet his favorite neighbors. He helps kids with special needs by being extra patient with their nervous petting; he seems to know not to bark when around children that are frightened by it. Frank brings so much joy to everyone around him; he is a ray of sunshine.

Frank was diagnosed with Mast cell cancer over five years ago, at three years old and had to have surgery, chemo and radiation. His prognosis was three to five years. He got through 5 years and 2 months before cancer reared its ugly head again.

The doctors at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ, say Frank is still young enough and healthy enough (aside from the cancer) to live three to five more years with treatment. This time he won’t need radiation because they were able to remove all the cancer. He needs 8 rounds of chemo to get rid of the “dirty margins” after surgery. I was concerned for Frank’s quality of life but as we learned last time, chemo in these low doses doesn’t impact dogs the way it does humans. He will be tired and maybe nauseous on occasion but those are the only side effects he might feel. He gets a steroid pill once at night and anti nausea medicine as needed (so far he hasn’t needed it).

The chemo with ultrasounds, and anesthesia with blood work comes to $8,500.00 in total. It is difficult to ask for help, but more difficult to say goodbye to our loyal, loving companion.
