I am asking for the help of friends, neighbors, Farmers Market supporters, and our community to assist Lisa and Frank Hayes with the overwhelming costs and expenses associated with Frank's cancer diagnosis. There are medical supplies not covered by insurance, transportation using a gurney for medical appointments, in home care for Frank so Lisa can continue to work, and help with rent and utilities so that Lisa can stay home occasionally and spend time with Frank.
Frank and Lisa are both fighters and they have been reluctant to seek assistance. These funds are needed immediately. Please read their story below.

Lisa and Frank have worked for Da-le-R Ranch for the past 8 years. You know Lisa from her work selling organic meat at the Palms Springs, Palm Desert, and Marvista Farmer's Markets. You may not have met her husband Frank. He is a ranch hand, working with the animals, at Da-le-Ranch. They met when Lisa was 15 and Frank was 16....That makes 42 years together. They share two wonderful daughters, Sabrina and Samantha.
In October or 2019, Frank was having bad chest pains. The CT scan at the emergency room found a 5.2 mass in his lung. At the subsequent biopsy, additional small masses were discovered on this spine. A few spinal bones were removed from his spine to relieve the pressure a a couple of the tumors were safely removed.
Two days later a diagnosis was announced: Small Cell Lung Cancer, Stage 4, Advanced.
In December of 2019 chemo began. Frank went from 165 lbs to 121 pounds. He stayed in a facility until March of 2020, when he received a portacath and was sent home as things began to shut down for covid. Frank continued his fight with home healthcare and blood draws weekly. Ten radiation treatments followed. Steroids were discontinued when it was discovered they induced diabetes.
Franks mother died in July of 2020, after being cared for by Lisa and Frank for almost 3 years in their home.
An MRI revealed that the cancer had spread to Frank's brain. Whole head radiation for 10 days ensued.
If you are able, please make a donation to honor Frank and Lisa. No gift is too great or too small.
If you are unable to give, please remember the Hayes family in your thoughts and prayers. Please share this post with friends and family who may be able to help.
Many thanks for your generosity and thoughtful consideration.
