Help Frank and Laurie recover after the flood

Since 2008 our fortunes have taken a marked turn for the worse. Little by little we were making our way back to solvency and even managed to start saving some funds for minor situations

But then our fate took a major turn in the wrong direction.

On Sunday August 22nd, my wife Laurie woke up at 6:00 am and discovered that our home was beginning to flood. She alerted me to the emergency and I surmised that, at that time, we had about 6 inches of water. By the time we were rescued at around 9:00 am there was close to 2 feet of water in our home. We were subsequently rescued by boat.
This was supposed to be the home we would be living in for our retirement years.
The house was fully paid off and our finances were pretty solid, barring the unthinkable. Well, a bizarre rain storm (due to Hurricane Henri) stalled over our neighborhood and dropped 9 inches of rain very quickly and overwhelmed the drainage system that supports our development. My home and about 100 others were flooded. Our Home Owners Association only carried a 1 million dollar flood insurance policy for the 2,400 homes in the community. (Sorely lacking for the water damage remediation necessary to address the losses to real property and furnishings.) Which brings me to this “Go Fund Me” campaign? Because of the subsequent mold that came as the water receded, we had to remove and destroy every stick of furniture we had in the house. The appliances will likely need to be replaced as they too were under water. Exposed clothing, shoes and personal belongings all had to go. Finally, the association insurance only covers the clearing out of the contents of the home, ripping up the carpet/flooring and then hiring “ServPro” to remediate the mold by cutting out the sheetrock from 4 feet high down to the floor. Additionally, all cabinets under 4 feet in the kitchens and bathrooms need to be removed and replaced Our Home Owners insurance policy does not cover flood damage and since we were not in a flood zone we did not carry flood insurance. From that point on, it is up to us, the Home Owner, to repair our homes to code and replace the lifetime of furniture, appliances and other belongings we need. Not an expense Laurie and I was prepared for physically, emotionally or financially. Thus, my appeal via this "Go Fund Me" campaign. All contributions are greatly appreciated and will immediately be put to use reconstructing the life we had prior to this unexpected catastrophe. Thank You!
