Help Francis and Becky Through This Healing Journey
Donation protected
This is my brother in law, Francis. In February of 2022, he got an infection and the medicine he was on damaged his kidneys requiring him to go to dialysis daily for the last two years. A year ago, he was put on the donor list to receive a kidney transplant to help provide a better lifestyle that didn’t require daily dialysis treatments. The average wait time for a transplant can be up to 5 years from a deceased donor. The other option is to receive a kidney from a living donor. After many family members tested and were not considered a match, he was waiting for someone to come along that was the right match. That was Megan, the young girl in the photo with him.
A little history behind Megan is that her dad was on the donor list years ago looking for a match. My nieces husband, Nick, saw a Facebook post about them looking for a match. He realized he was a match and underwent surgery to donate one of his kidneys to Megan’s dad. Fast forward to now where Megan realized Francis needed a kidney and she realized she was a match.
Francis and Becky went up to Mayo on January 14 for prep procedures. The kidney transplant took place January 17 and like many other surgeries, the body takes time to heal. Francis has been in the hospital at Mayo since the transplant surgery took place. The doctors are working to stabilize his body as it tries to accepts the new kidney. Medical cost and bills are costly. The family is helping in any and every way we can, but if you’re able to help to lighten the burden we’d be forever grateful.
Francis has gone back in the hospital as of today. His levels are not good at all. They are going to be doing more test starting on Monday, Feb. 10.
Hopefully the test can give them some answers. Doesn’t look like he will be coming home anytime soon.
