Hi, I am MaryAnn, Francine’s sister. Francine and the person who has been her rock and love for the past 40 plus years has been fighting for his life. Oscar has worked hard his entire life, finally retired last September, and just when he had the time to enjoy this retirement, he was stricken with lung cancer. It has now metastasized, and there are only moments of joy during days and nights of pain. It has progressed quickly, robbing them not only of time together, which is beyond heartbreaking, but also, due to the way the insurance companies treat people over 65, their life’s savings. I have been a witness to this beautiful man declining, barely able to walk, not a second without pain, unable to enjoy a meal, and his only concern is about others. I am worried that the menial amount that the insurance covers and the depletion of all their savings is going to cost him the care he still needs to complete his life with some dignity.
