My name is Frances M. Cabanellas, but most of you know me as D. Taína from the Gargoyles and Lucifer fandoms. I've always tried to keep my private life separate from my fandom life, but the circumstances have forced me to change that. As some of you may know, my beloved grandmother, Nia, passed away on July 6th of this year. She was my rock, my support, and the only home I've ever known. Now I'm left to both mourn her and to pick up the pieces of my life. Her house, the one I've lived in all my life, is going to be sold in the coming months. I have to find homes for most of our cats. I have to find a new place to live. Basically, with her gone and the house going up for sale, I have to start over elsewhere.
I lost my job and my car's engine died at the same time I became my grandma's full-time caretaker nearly three years ago, and it's been incredibly hard to try to make ends meet since. Without a car, I can't get a job here in Puerto Rico. And without a job, I can't make enough money to fix the car, much less pay the bills. I do some contractual work remotely to try to make ends meet but it's never enough. I've been trying to climb out of this hole I've been in for so long, but no matter how hard I try, it just keeps getting deeper and deeper. I don't know what else to do other than ask for help.
My power is going to be cut in the coming weeks. The power company is asking me for $1,700 up front and then $250 every month after that until the full balance is paid. I'm asking all my friends, and anyone I ever meant something to, to please contribute what they can so that I can keep the power on while I mourn my grandma and prepare for this new chapter in my life. Even if you can only contribute $1, every little bit helps.
Thank you so much for hearing me out.
