Our beloved Sister and Auntie Franny has been dealt a tough hand these last few years, most recently, on top of losing her employment, she lost her faithful old truck and needed her entire savings to replace it. We are looking for meaningful ways to help her through this extremely rough patch.
Franny worked for many years as a respected professional supervisor in the food service industry for a catering company in Napa Valley. She loved her work, doggedly devoted herself to her colleagues, no matter their age or status, and thrived at the work despite the often incredible stress and intense physical demands.
Fran loves the people of her northern California world, and the connection with her community is a personal one. You will see her comforting a distressed person on the street or offering water to a worker on a hot day. Often when you are out with Fran you will be part of a friendly encounter with someone she knew, perhaps many years ago or maybe someone she recently met, someone who was touched by her kindness and remembers her.
A few years ago Fran suffered a massive heart attack, which she barely survived. Miraculously, she recovered but without the strength and stamina that she once had. This forced her to greatly reduce her work hours. Times were already tight for her, as even in the best of times, food service is not a high paying job. When the fires, Covid and the recession hit her area hard, Fran lost her employment. She now picks up house and pet sitting jobs and lives very simply. Even in her straightened circumstances Fran retains her optimism, her sense of fun and her concern for others.
The heart of Fran's life now lies in Santa Rosa. For three years, several times a week, she drove her old truck over the mountain to Santa Rosa to help care for her beautiful, beloved young grandson who lives with extremely complex medical conditions. She is an invaluable source of support for her daughter, Sylvia. Fran deeply loves her grandson. He recognizes her voice and lights up when she is with him.
At 250,000 miles Fran's truck finally gave out. After a search she found a used car. Purchasing it took her entire savings but with the car she is again able to help Sylvia and to work, whenever restrictions permit.
After a lifetime of hard work, Fran now lives from day to day. She never asks for anything nor does she complain about her challenging circumstances. Instead, she minimizes them so as not to worry anyone. She does so much good for everyone. Now we have an opportunity to do something good for her. We are hoping to raise enough money for Franny to restore her savings, pay her rent and have a small cushion to help her pay her bills, gas and weather the challenging time she has been experiencing.
Someone recently said, regarding COVID, " We are all in the same storm...it is just that we are all weathering this storm on very different boats." Let's find a way to surround Franny's boat with calmer waters. Let's send the love she shares with us so freely back to her.
