Help Foxy Walk Again: Support His Surgery

Doação protegida
Foxy has been living with The Klempan family since August 2023. He showed up as a stray cat at our back door, skinny and hungry. At first he was very scared of humans and would just eat and run, he wouldn’t come inside or let us pet him. It took us about 6 months to get him to trust us enough to let us pet him. But we noticed that he was very intelligent and active, and he liked to follow us on walks around the block every day.

Over the past several months since then, he has opened up to us so much more. He has been sleeping in the house every night, letting us pet and pick him up, and learning about boundaries with our senior cats. I recently took him to the vet to get an exam and vaccinations, where he was deemed “perfect.” We discovered that he had a microchip, but could not locate his previous owners, so I transferred ownership and changed the microchip to have my info on it, officially making Foxy a part of our family. Until yesterday, we were still enjoying our daily walks together, which he started to demand by meowing insistently at the door.

On December 27th, 2024, he didn’t come home for the night, which was unusual. We discovered that he was in our neighbor’s yard the next morning, when we got a call that their dog had just attacked Foxy. His legs appeared to be injured because he could not walk. We rushed him to the ER. After some exams, they determined that he was likely already injured before the attack, because he had no bite marks or blood on his body. After initially saying his back left leg didn’t work and discussing an amputation, and then having us go home and wait for several agonizing hours, the vet did an X-Ray and some more tests and told us that his legs were actually showing signs of life. That was the good news.

The bad news was that his pelvis was fractured in several places.

We can’t say for sure but imagine he may have suffered a hit from a passing vehicle and dragged himself into our neighbor’s yard, where he was unable to run away from their dog.

We learned that surgery is an option, but it could cost somewhere in the range of $10,000. We have not yet put him on any kind of pet insurance, which means it would be entirely out of pocket.

We debated putting him to sleep and saying goodbye to our little friend that we worked so hard to gain trust from. But he is still so young, and we are all incredibly attached to him, especially my dad, who is battling Parkinson’s Disease, and gets so much joy, love and comfort from this particular animal.

We would like to at least try to give him a chance at survival, if we can. This is going to be extremely expensive for our family, though. Any amount helps, or you may share this post with others to spread the word.

Thank you from the Klempan Clan
