Twelve hours after a demonstration by Cinema Village's employee union, four of the longest-tenured employees of the theater were fired, with no warning and no compensation. In the following weeks, the three members of the union's Negotiating Committee were fired as well, one by one, receiving termination letters that often included inaccuracies and falsehoods attempting to justify the unwarranted action. All seven employees, union members and residents of the most expensive city in the country, are now in a sudden scramble to afford bills and rent. The employees of Cinema Village have already faced a year of union-motivated retaliation, including cuts to hours and job duties, and now all of the original unit are without jobs, the first employees fired in years.
