I took in Josie and her brother, Oaks, when they were just six weeks old, thinking I’d foster them for a short while. But from the moment they curled up in my lap, it was game over—I couldn’t part with them. I believe God sent them to me.
Raising two Staffordshire Terrier siblings as a first-time dog owner has been an adventure, filled with love, chaos, and an endless supply of stolen socks. But nothing could have prepared me for the heartbreaking journey Josie has been on these past few months.
At just 10 months old, my sweet Josie girl faced a medical nightmare. What started as Happy Tail Syndrome—a common condition in high-energy dogs—took a devastating turn. Unbeknownst to us, a hidden skin eating infection was spreading beneath her tail, completely out of sight. By the time we discovered it, the damage was severe, leading to a partial tail amputation and a grueling recovery process.
Josie, being the happy, resilient pup she is, never let on that she was in pain. But the healing process was anything but easy. Due to an adverse reaction to medication, what was meant to calm her instead sent her into extreme panic and anxiety, causing her to rip open her stitches three separate times—even with an XL cone.
For three long months, including her first birthday, Josie has been in and out of the emergency vet and animal hospital. She’s undergone daily hydrotherapy, multiple rounds of antibiotics, and extensive wound care, all while keeping her signature doe-eyed charm. She’s the happiest, most loving girl despite everything.
Now, we’re facing overwhelming medical bills—and as much as I hate to ask for help, as a single-income home, I am struggling with the nearly $13,000 of debt. If you’re able to contribute, every little bit goes directly toward her bills from pre/post recovery. If you can’t donate, simply sharing her story means the world.
Josie has brought so much joy and love into my life. I just want to give her the happy, healthy future she deserves. Thank you for reading, supporting, and being a part of her journey.
