Help Formerly Incarcerated Diasporas visit Africa

Hello my name is Edisa Martinez, I was a former Deputy Sheriff in the state of North Carolina. I later relocated to Toronto and started working in the field of reintegration. I’m continually trying to make a difference in the lives of young adults and street involved youth. I’ve worked with many youth helping them get their lives back on track. Tragically I lost multiple young men and woman due to gun violence during the process. I’ve watched many young adults go back to jail and prison. It has been such an up hill battle.

 

Recently I went to Ghana, Africa on vacation and a light bulb went on in my head.

“HOPE International!” This is just an expression declaring my interest to help beyond my limited capacity. By this I am seeking funds to help provide a solution for those of the African diaspora that have been traumatized by the effects of poverty and marginalization. I want to help (Formerly Incarcerated Diasporas) visit Africa.

 

The solution to this problem can be achieved by reconnecting FID’s with their African roots and ancestral history. This initiative attempts to reduce crime in their respective home country/city through this journey of spiritual healing. I would like to send (10-15) Formerly Incarcerated Diasporas on an African retreat.

 

Sending them on a trip to Africa can change their way of thinking permanently. I would like them to experience Ghana‘s Cape Coast and Elmina Castle. Visiting the slave dungeons and walking through the infamous door of no return. I want them to experience an authentic traditional festival, a grand durbar/Akwasidae and Royal Naming Ceremony.

 

The objective is to resuscitate and awake their spirit of ambition and leadership so that they can appreciate life and value the life of others. Knowing and understanding where they come from through this experience can change their perspective on things permanently.

 

Due to Covid-19 procedure in Ghana covid PCR test is required prior to arrival and upon arrival and to return.

3 Covid test fees per person . This cost is in the total goal amount as well as round trip flights hotel, 3 meals per person daily, transportation multiple events and tourists attraction fees. 

Please help me make this very necessary journey a reality for those who may have never set foot on African soil otherwise. Thanks in advance!
