Help Formerly Feral Pablo!
Donation protected
Pablo was found on the streets of Arvin, CA, in Summer of 2023. Someone reached out to me and asked if I could rehab him because he was completely feral, or terrified of humans, at that point. He was so scared that he would even express his anal glands when handled.
At the time I was asked to help make Pablo an adoptable, handleable dog, the non-profit rescue I fostered for split in two. One rescue, Westside, took Pablo under their purview, but now that he needs medical care, they are passing the buck to the organization from which they split, despite having taken previous medical and financial responsibility.
All that to say that poor Pablo is in the middle and needs help!
He’s only five years old and he’s recently really started to come around. He’s less fearful of new people and he’s finally chosen to come out of his safe room and explore the rest of the house. He cuddles with me at night and gives the utmost gentle kisses. He loves playing with the dogs and is a very sweet guy.
About two weeks ago, Pablo’s appetite started decreasing and he was eating less and less. In about two weeks’ time, he went from 21 pounds to 13 pounds. He’s currently skin and bones. Friday night he became lethargic and wouldn’t eat or drink. He’s also experiencing bloody diarrhea. Further, he was hiding under the bed again, something he hadn’t done in months. The rescue from which Westside split agreed to pick up the bill for the emergency vet. Pablo was dehydrated, anemic and had low protein. He was hydrated and given some medication to try to make him feel better.
His doctor stated Pablo would need more blood retaken tomorrow, Tuesday, to see if he’s become more anemic. If he has, he will need a blood transfusion and a hospital stay. If he has maintained his blood levels or improved, he will not need any treatment at that time. However, on Thursday, his care will be assumed by and transferred to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, and he will be given an ultrasound to rule out an intestinal tumor. The other possible diagnoses are an autoimmune disorder or gastric ulcers.
With the help of donations for Pablo’s care for the next three days, Pablo will get the potential life saving care he deserves.
I have highlighted the portion of the estimate that will be a definite expense tomorrow. The rest is dependent upon his blood results.
If you are able, please donate to Pablo’s medical expenses. Any additional funds raised will be donated to Marley’s Mutts for his future medical care.
Pablo and I thank you, and we ask for good vibes and news that it is NOT an intestinal tumor.
