Help Former Stanford Sailing Coach John Vandemoer

When I found out that John Vandemoer was facing federal charges as part of the Operation Varsity Blues college admission scandal, I was shocked and dismayed. I know John, I know his wife Molly very well, and I know John would never intentionally do anything wrong.  As I learned what actually happened, I lost sleep at night knowing what a raw deal John was getting and that his employer, Stanford University, was not standing by him. I would have to imagine that to defend John would open Stanford's admission's process up to discovery and, it is obvious to me, this is something Stanford would never agree to. But in fact, John told Stanford he was accepting money from Singer into the Sailing program and was never told by Stanford that this was a conflict of interest nor that John should not accept the money. If you watch Netflix's documentary Operation Varsity Blues, you will see a small part of the trap John found himself in. For the full story, John's book, Rigged Justice, will be released this fall. But the facts are clear, John never assisted any of Singer's kids to get into Stanford, and all of the money Singer donated went to the Stanford Sailing Program. John never pocketed anything, and never would.

In the meantime, John is facing a mountain of legal bills and is still in the process of putting his life back together - something that will undoubtedly take years. When Stanford fired John, he lost his job, his home, his kids' preschool, his health insurance and his dignity. Watching all of this unfold for this wonderful family was was beyond heartbreaking.
