Farewell to Sachintha
Donation protected
We would like to ensure that this horrible and unprepared loss can be mourned by his family without the burden of financial stress.
Sachintha’s loving wife will manage these funds to ensure that her family can focus on their emotional grief.
Sachintha Nandula Battagodage sadly passed away suddenly on the 23/11/2020 at the young age of 23 years. He and his wife Yelani were in Australia working and studying.
The brave young couple were here alone a long way from home and family support, they had each other and made a few Sri Lankan community and work friends. Sachintha and Yelani have been partners in life for 10 years and the couple married a few years ago before travelling to Australia.
Yelani was studying and only able to do 20hrs a week and with Sachintha being on a dependant spouse visa he was working hard taking whatever hours he could to support them both.
About two years ago they arrived very early one morning at the previous cleaning contractor at University of Adelaide looking for work, they were told by the Site Manager Deb that there were no positions available at UoA and it was suggested they apply online. To Deb's surprise over the course of three weeks at 3am on an almost daily basis there they were, two very well presented, polite, smiley young people asking if there were any jobs available and letting her know that they had applied online!
One morning Deb arrived on site a little earlier than normal and they were waiting in the carpark just outside of the site office. So fate would have it there had been three short notice resignations on that morning and Deb decided then and there that ANYONE willing to keep turning up at that hour of the morning deserved a chance and they both got a job.
They were very quiet and quite shy when they started but soon became reliable, respectful, hardworking members of the crew and happily came across with GJK Facility Services in July this year.
