Just weeks after celebrating his 29th birthday, my brother, Tyler Root, began having some numbness in his limbs. Working as a nurse at a small rural hospital, he was able to ask a doctor about it. Within hours, he was taken to a larger hospital, and then to Mayo Clinic. Mayo confirmed his diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumor – glioblastoma multiforme in the pons area of his brain - and given months to live. There are no good options. And there is no cure. An extremely risky biopsy might allow them to use chemo to extend his life up to 24 months at the very best, but with a low quality of living.

This was a devastating diagnosis for a husband and father of three young children. Rose, his wife of six years and a stay-at-home mom to their young kids, is shocked and heartbroken. Tyler will not see his kids grow up - Niomi, 5, Asher, 3, and Ezekiel, 1. The old farmhouse they were renovating will never be finished. The small farm they were starting will be lost, the animals sold and re-homed. The future they envisioned is gone; their family shattered. They prayerfully considered any options that offered some hope of keeping their family together.



Tyler and Rose made the decision to seek help from the Budwig Clinic in Malaga, Spain, which offers hope for life extension. Unfortunately, their insurance will not cover the cost of these treatments, or the costs he will have to continue these treatments at home. Their medical bills are mounting quickly - $80,000 this year, and another $10,000 insurance deductible already looming at the start of the new year.
