HOPE & SURVIVAL FOR TOM DORR
AFTER HURRICANE IAN
Dear friends,
We are the Pushee family, Nancy, Jeff and LeAnne Folsom from Michigan. We urge you to join us in our cause to help our friend Tom (Tommy) Dorr get his life back after surviving the worst hurricane in Florida history in Fort Myers Beach. Tommy’s home was completely demolished, his workplace destroyed, no food, water or electricity was available, and all businesses were shut down and boarded up. Thankfully, Tommy escaped the beach with his life, carrying only a backpack with a few personal items and his beloved cat Gema.
His roommate Jesse nearly drowned. While water was filling the house, he was able to grab his dog and climb out to the roof during 12–18-foot water surges. Then the house started floating down the street. Jesse stayed on the rooftop until he could jump off onto a neighbor’s 3rd-floor balcony to safety.
Tommy grew up in the friendly and close-knit neighborhood of Dearborn, Michigan, with his well-known and fun-loving parents, Jeannie and Jerry Dorr, and his siblings. He was a happy and active child who spent many days at our home hanging out and riding bikes with Jeff and other buddies from the Lindberg School gang. During this time, however, tragedy struck the family when Tommy’s older teenage brother Timmy was fatally attacked by a friend and sadly passed away. It was a horrific and devastating loss that naturally affected Tommy and the whole family.
Following high school, Tommy moved away to Florida and settled in Fort Myers Beach, where he lived and worked for 15 years until another tragedy struck…Hurricane Ian.
And that brings us to right now. Tommy has nothing left. We are urging each of you to please donate whatever you can to help Tommy with necessities like food, clothing and housing. He has expressed his heartfelt thanks to us and everyone involved in this cause. Every dollar donated by you will be transferred directly to Tommy.
Thank you.
