You find yourself on this page because YOU are lucky enough to have Kyle Wills in your life - one of the smartest, funniest, kindest, most thoughtful, most talented and most bearded people ever. Kyle, his wife Sara, and their two beautiful sunshiny girls, Dorie and Djuna, need our help.
For me, it’s (unbelievably) been 18 years since first meeting Kyle in NYC. That was 2002. A year later he became drummer in my band, The Teenage Prayers, kicking off an adventure which ran the rest of the decade, carrying us from sea to shining sea. You get to know a person after logging a few hundred hours in a cramped and leaky band van. Kyle isn’t my friend. He’s my brother.
As some of you know, Kyle was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer a few weeks ago. The road ahead is a challenging one, and it's already begun: 6 to 8 cycles of chemotherapy over the next 3 to 4 months, followed by 5 ½ weeks of radiation and a lower-dose chemo and then ultimately surgery to remove the growth. These months won’t be easy on Kyle, Sara and the girls, especially as the infamous Minnesota winter months set in. They need our love and support, both emotionally and financially.
In different times, it might be feasible to come together physically to help Sara and Kyle navigate the daily challenges ahead, but of course, these times are anything but normal - and the treatment Kyle is undergoing will necessarily place him at a higher risk of contracting Covid, which means he, Sara and the girls have to be extra cautious. Knowing this, I think the most helpful thing we can offer them, alongside our love and strength, is a financial contribution to help ease some of the difficulties, both foreseen and unforeseen, that this medical challenge presents.
Every penny we raise will go towards childcare, medical bills and any other expenses they may face. Let’s come together to provide this much needed support so that Kyle, Sara, Djuna and Dorie can focus on the task at hand - soundly defeating cancer and emerging from this ordeal healthy and strong.
