On Friday Sept 8th my brother Bear was on his way to meet some friends to get ready for for a weekend motorcycle trip to the Mackinac Bridge. On the way there a lady was coming down the wrong side of the road and Bear had to lay the bike down. She road up on the bike and then in a moment of panic after hitting him she backed up and dragged Bear and the bike for about two feet before the vehicle came back off the bike at which point the front end came down on Bears leg and blew his calf out. Luckily this happened next to a doctors office and the medical staff there rushed out and got a tourniquet on his leg and kept him from bleeding out until the EMTs arrived. He was taken to Holland Hospital via ambulance where they decided it was best to send him to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was in surgery for about four hours on Saturday the 9th where they discovered the damage was more severe than they thought. His calf muscle was split in two and not repairable via surgery and will have to heal on it's own, His Fibula had a clean break but the Tibia was smashed up pretty bad and there was a chunk of bone that came out and wasn't repairable so he will have to have a bone graft to replace it in 6-8 weeks. His ACL is intact and there was no nerve damage. Bears leg is being held together with some metal rods and screws right now and will be basically couch bound for the next few months and unable to work.
Bear should be home from the hospital in the next few days as long as there's no more complications.
These funds will be used to help cover anything insurance and disability don't/can't cover over the course of the next few months and to make sure Bear, Katey and their four girls have what they need to get by.
Any funds not used will be donated to a charity of Bear and Kateys choosing.
