Hi everyone. Our dad, Arthur had an ischemic stroke on the morning of February 18th. By the grace of God he was able to somehow call my brother Carson from his bedroom and Carson knew something wasn’t right as he couldn’t speak. Carson rushed to his room and found him on his bedroom floor and it was clear he was having a stroke. When Arthur got to the ER it was determine that he would be air evacuated to Scottsdale Osborne Medical for emergency surgery to remove the blockages in his carotid artery and brain. The surgery was successful, but Arthur was left paralyzed on his entire left side of his body. Even simple things like swallowing was affected. When Arthur was released from the ICU he moved to the neuro wing and started to receive some therapy and shortly after was released to a rehabilitation therapy hospital 2 weeks ago where he is getting intensive rehabilitation to learn how to use his left side again. Unfortunately, insurance has decided that he cannot continue his rehab at the hospital and they are discharging him tomorrow. We have appealed and our appeal was denied. It is way too early for him to be released as he still has no use of his left arm and requires a lot of assistance to stand, walk and do simple every day things. He is no where near independent, but we are blessed that every day he is making some progress. The road ahead for him is still very long, but we are hopeful that he will gain some independence in the months to come.
In order for Arthur to get continued therapy we have had to buy/rent medical equipment like a hospital bed, wheelchair, walkers, bathroom chairs, etc. all of which the insurance does not cover to try to replicate the rehab facility he is in now. We also have to have a caregiver come each day at $30 an hour as we all work full time and cannot provide the care he needs during the day. Insurance does not cover this cost either. There will also be large medical bills that are coming as well. As you can imagine the costs are starting to build up as my brothers have also had to take on more of the household bills as Arthur is unable to work.

My brothers and I have been through many challenges in the last several years and have never asked for help. In fact this is really strange for me to even be asking. We know things are tough for everyone, so if you cannot donate, we would appreciate your prayers, good vibes and all the good thoughts you can put into the universe for Arthur and his full recovery. Thank you in advance for your help in any way that you are able.

All our love,
Macy, Carson & Jenny
