Help for the Huss Family

My name is Jenn Hayes, and I am Jami's best friend from elementary school. Jami and Rob have been experiencing severe symptoms of COVID. Both are now in the ICU in Ellensburg, WA - where they are living. They have a young son, Ben, who is staying with Rob's parents for the time being. They also have three dogs that are companions to Ben, Rob and Jami. One is Rob's travel partner when he is driving his semi. The three dogs will need to be placed in a kennel while they are in the hospital. This is an added expense that they will have to burden, as their dogs are family members. Anyone who has pets knows this to be true!

Rob and Jami are partners in Huss Trucking. Rob does the over-the-road hauling and driving, and Jami takes care of all the finances and paperwork. Rob and Jami celebrated their 1st anniversary this past New Years' Eve in Las Vegas, where they were married. While in Las Vegas, they followed all the masking guidelines and wore them even when outside walking around. They didn't think they would catch COVID with taking precautions. They came back to Washington state on January 4th and developed symptoms of COVID. As a result, Rob has not driven his truck for the company (Giltner) he leases it from since coming home from their anniversary trip. This has put a substantial financial burden on the family as he is the primary earner in the family. Rob does not know when he will be healthy enough to return to driving over the road. He has to make monthly payments to the owning company (Giltner) he leases his truck through, and the payments are substantial (more than a vehicle payment!) - especially now that he cannot drive his truck to support his family. Another hardship for the family is that they do not have health insurance. With the type of work Rob does, they could not afford to buy health insurance for everyone. The medical costs will be substantial and will become a burden for the family to get paid off.

Rob has now been diagnosed with pneumonia on top of the COVID symptoms. He told me he has the Delta variant of COVID. He went to the doctor on the 11th and had clear lungs. He went to the doctor's office on Monday for a recheck of his condition. The X-rays came back showing he has pneumonia! He was given orders to go to the hospital to be admitted to the ICU. He is in the ICU and on oxygen through a cannula. The medical staff are monitoring and managing his conditions of pneumonia and COVID.

Jami sounded like she couldn't catch her breath when I spoke with her on Sunday. She could not eat anything for about a week and has lost 30 pounds. She thought the cough she developed was from shoveling the 18 inches of snow that they received - the area usually does not get this amount of snow, but she had to clear it as Rob was already feeling sick. She said her only symptoms were she didn't feel hungry, the cough and having a more difficult time catching her breath. Jami could still taste food and smell things; she did not have a desire to eat anything though. As a result of her worsening breathing conditions, she was rushed to the ER yesterday by ambulance. Sarah, Jami's daughter, told me that Jami was very close to not breathing. She was very near to being in a diabetic coma from her blood sugars. On Monday, the ER staff had placed a central line in her neck area. She is receiving fluids and medications that are making her sleep most of the day. They are trying to get her blood sugar numbers back down to a manageable number. She is in the ICU in a room close to Rob's. The medical staff will monitor her levels and manage her care. Rob told me that Jami was worse off than he was with pneumonia and COVID.

The Huss family would and has given to those who are in need. Having to ask for help is something they do not like to do. They need all the support that they can get from friends, family and those wanting to help people made from the salt of the earth. They are hard-working and believe in supporting others in need. If you can help them with any amount, they would appreciate all the support and love given to them! They have expenses that they are not able to manage with having COVID and not being able to work. Not to mention all the medical expenses they will have once they are back at home. So if you are able to help Jami and Rob, please consider doing so! They are my best friends and need all the help they can get right now. And some prayers for healing would be appreciated!

All donations will go to Jami and Rob Huss to help pay for their medical and living expenses.
