Help for the Holts: Lorna's Story

This GoFundMe account has been set up for Josh and Rebecca Holt and the needs related to their daughter Lorna. Here is Lorna's story...

Lorna and her twin sister, Kenna, are little 4-year-old miracles. They were born without pituitary glands, which means they need growth hormones and other meds to keep them alive and thriving. This also means that when they get sick, things can get serious fast.

Kenna and Lorna both have influenza A. Lorna came down with it on Monday morning (12/23). Lorna's fever spiked, and she began seizing. She was taken via ambulance to a local hospital where she received anti-seizure meds, was sedated, and intubated. She was then transferred to a Children's Hospital.

It was discovered that Lorna had a brain infection and massive swelling in her brain. She had surgery that evening in which they removed 2 sections of her skull to allow for swelling. On Christmas Eve morning, an MRI showed worsening swelling. They were unable to place a drain that morning, but they were able to collect fluid using a needle to send for testing. The providers consulted specialists around the country.

Late Christmas Eve, the doctors said they did everything they could for Lorna. The doctor said that the swelling in the body/brain peaks at 72-96 hours after a traumatic health episode. They put her in a medically induced coma to allow her brain to heal.

We do not know what tomorrow holds for Lorna and her family, but our prayer is that she will have a miraculous and full recovery.
