You probably know Jessica and Mathew Hollenstein. Maybe your kids go to school with theirs; maybe Tristan or Jaelyn sit in one of your classrooms at South Middle or LHS. You might know Jessica because she was your child’s religion teacher at St. Raymond’s, or because she hand-delivered plants to you back in her Marion Street days. Mathew might have coached your daughter’s soccer team or been your son’s wrestling coach for years. After all, Mathew is the heart and soul of the Lynbrook Titans Wrestling program and has likely knelt on the mat during your child’s wrestling match, guiding and encouraging them every step of the way.
The Hollensteins are pillars of the Lynbrook community, generously giving their time and energy to help our children thrive. Now it’s our turn to be there for them as they focus on what matters most--the health and recovery of their son, Tristan.
A sophomore at LHS, Tristan recently suffered a sudden and frightening medical emergency after complaining of neck pain. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered two aneurysms and performed emergency surgeries to stop a brain bleed. During additional scans, doctors also identified an AVM or arteriovenous malformation, a dangerous tangle of abnormal blood vessels in the brain—making his projected recovery longer and more complex.
Tristan is still in the hospital, continuing to heal. The family is awaiting his transfer to a rehabilitation center in Westchester, where he will spend several weeks working on short-term memory loss before undergoing another surgery to manage the AVM. Throughout this unimaginable time, Jessica and Mathew have remained by Tristan’s side, pouring all their strength into helping their son recover.
The Hollensteins have always shown up for this community. Now they need our help. Every donation, no matter the size, helps ease the burden so they can focus fully on Tristan’s healing. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page is a powerful way to show support.
