Help for the Holgate's

Hi, my name is Rachel and I am fundraising for my parents John and Landie Holgate.

At this time their income has taken a monthly loss of $1,200.

John Holgate was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2015 - Myoepithelial Sarcoma. After having an invasive surgery to remove an orange-sized tumor that had exploded and grew out of his left ilium, he went back to work full time, only now with a slight limp. Since that time he has endured multiple cancer treatments and side effects, and several more surgeries, due to the cancer metastasizing (which eventually led him to part-time, less stressful work). His latest surgery was on July 21, 2021.

Landie took John to the ER on July 18 when he realized that something wasn’t right…he had lost feeling and could not control some bodily functions. An MRI revealed cancer in his sacrum enveloping his nerves and putting pressure on nerves, blood vessels and his spine. (It also revealed more tumors on his upper spine.)

A few days after being admitted to the hospital, and after much deliberation between his cancer team doctors, the decision was made to do surgery; the sole purpose of which was to relieve pressure from his sacrum.

It was not possible for all of the cancer to be removed, and no possibility of taking margins. And, it has been determined by the radiation oncologist that no more radiation can be administered in that area; he’s had his limit. (As of this writing, John’s nerves have not healed…no feeling has returned.)

We’re not sure at this time what other possibilities of cancer treatments are available. An upcoming appointment with his oncologist will provide us with options.

On top of this, John has an impending fracture on his left hip. An upcoming appointment with his orthopedic surgeon will provide answers to that problem. In the meantime, he must use a walker to avoid weight-bearing on his left side.

He cannot go back to work and so he’s lost half his monthly income. Landie has pared down their monthly budget as much as possible, and has applied for assistance from certain entities, as well.

Family and friends have been kind and generous in helping them this month with what they lacked. Much love and thankfulness to you all.
