Transitioning from being an ER nurse to becoming a patient hasn't been easy for McKenna. In October, McKenna noticed a large cyst growing near her right thyroid. She then had a scan done in January, where a large mass was found. Following this with a biopsy suggested that it was likely malignant cells growing. McKenna opted for surgery, which took place on February 8. Her surgery was successful in removing her right thyroid and isthmus. However, her recovery was slower than the doctors liked, causing an extended stay and return two days later for low calcium complications. Thankfully the full pathology has returned, and although it was not a cancerous mass, her doctor is certain that it would have mutated within the next few years. Thank God she chose to get it removed when she did!
McKenna Higginson is one of the most selfless, hard-working, and God-fearing people I know. Anyone that has had the gift of meeting her knows that she would drop anything she is doing for a friend in need. She doesn't like the other way around. So, this GoFundMe is being created in her name by her friends. McKenna is an ER nurse, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and a new wife to her wonderful husband, Jadrien. They have both had to take countless days off work for McKenna's health, which has become a burden on their finances as the bills keep piling. The money raised from this fundraiser will go straight toward the medical bills that McKenna has and will continue to have.
Any support for McKenna would be appreciated if you are able! We are most thankful for successful surgeries, good pathology reports, and McKenna's steadfast faith. We appreciate all of the time, prayers, and thoughts for McKenna and her family through this difficult time!
