Help for the Herrera's

Donation protected
On May 9, 2018, Mia Herrera was involved in a serious car accident and sustained numerous injuries, including critical head injuries.  Mia was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center where a Trauma Team performed an emergency craniotomy.  Mia was placed in an induced coma to allow for minimal brain activity to help decrease the swelling.

As the swelling went down, the doctors took Mia off the medication that induced the coma, hopeful for eye movement.  Unfortunately, Mia contracted pneumonia which has delayed the swelling to go down.  In addition, she has had to have a number of other surgeries.  Throughout this ordeal, Mia's parents, Maureen and Rafael Herrera, have never left her side.  They have each taken shifts at the hospital, staying with Mia in the ICU, quietly reassuring their daughter that they are there with her, waiting for her to open her eyes.  While one parent is at the hospital, the other is home with their 8 year old son Aiden, trying to maintain the household and goat farm, along with chickens, cats and dog.  They also help take care of Maureen's mother, who is only a short distance away from their home.  And, to top it all off, Rafael has to return to work for some of the day, help with chores at the farm and then stay overnight at the hospital to be with Mia.

Needless to say it has been very difficult for the family and this is just the beginning of this long road.  Between missing work so they can be with Mia at the hospital, and running back home to maintain some type of normalcy for Aiden, their costs to get back and forth to the hospital, in addition to the cost of meals at the hospital has begun to strain their resources.  Maureen and Rafael also drive older vehicles and one of the vehicles had to go to their mechanic for repairs.

We appreciate all the love, thoughts, and prayers during this ordeal.  We know many people have asked how else they can help the Herrera family.  These proceeds with go to help cover the costs for food, gas and assistance with medical expenses. Thank you.
