My name is Tamara Field. In October, my son, Sam, was diagnosed with ALL B-cell leukemia. It’s been agonizing to watch my brave, spirited 18-year-old begin a two-year course of treatment that involves near-constant chemo and requires a lot of home care. I have already had to walk away from a full time job. We’ve spent 5 weeks total in the hospital since late January. Needless to say, our immediate financial situation has become rather scary.
Sam is handling every moment with grace and grit. He is facing this life-threatening illness with maturity and as much humor as he can muster. Any money collected would go toward medical bills not covered by insurance and keeping me available to be by his side: rent, basic bills and trips to/stays in Portland. This grueling first year of treatment is not forever, of course. We hope to get on with our lives when he enters his second year of maintenance treatment this fall.
Sam’s chances of being cured of leukemia at the end of the line are quite good, which makes every difficult second worth it. Thank-you very much for hearing our story. Give if you can. Many of you have already done so and we are beyond grateful. We’ll also take prayers and well wishes. Much love, Tam
