Help for the family of an unsung hero

This fundraiser is to help the family of a veteran that was been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, three months ago, and has been given weeks to live. Veteran Ronald Donahue is a 71-year-old Vietnam vet, with multiple medical issues caused by being sprayed with agent orange in the Vietnam war. He has three different cancers caused by his service to this country. The first being skin cancer, causing him to have infected pieces of skin cut out multiple times over the course of the last couple of decades. The next form of cancer to form is prostate cancer, stage 4, that was found about a year ago, and this cancer has already spread into his bones. Finally, he has pancreatic cancer that is quickly consuming his body. Ronald’s son has been his primary caretaker over the last decade and has been by his side through many medical wars over this time. This fundraiser is to help the family recover financially, have the resources to take the time to grieve upon his passing, receive the support needed to cover veteran’s services, and enable the family’s needs going forward.

Hi everyone, I am Ron Jr., the son of the veteran.

First and foremost, thank you for reading our story, and I hope that I can clearly give you an idea of our situation. In 2012, my dad suffered an anoxic brain injury which caused him to go into a comma. Over the next few weeks, I met with multiple specialists, social workers, and chaplains that told me there was zero chance of him waking up. Those were some very dark times for me, and all I could do was wait on the Lord for his divine intervention. Finally, about three weeks into this I was able to get a third opinion and have him moved I to the Seattle VA ICU. Within a week of this move, after hours of prayer, he woke up, by the grace of God. The anoxic brain injury left my dad with memory, speech, and cognitive issues. I made my dad a promise when he woke up that I would be by his side, protecting him, and making sure his life could be the best as possible.

At the time of this event, I was preparing to get married to my wife, which happened while he was in a comma. When he woke up, we moved into my dad’s home to take care of him full time. Taking care of my dad has been my whole life over the last ten years. For many reasons this has been very difficult, both mentally and physically. I was born with cerebral palsy, and I need to use a scooter to get around. Although this has been a struggle in my life it has not been my limitation. My dad is the strongest man I know, which has made the man I am today. It kills me to see my dad losing battle with cancer and his strength.
Thank you for taking the time reading my story. If you can financially help, that would be a blessing to us. If I may ask you to share this over all social media sites in hope, we can share our story with others. May God Bless us all and bring us all miracles of healing, financial favor to all that are in need.
