Hello All, In January 2017, my mother, Kristin Detailleur, was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer. Following several months of chemotherapy, several weeks of radiation, and surgery, the doctors told us she had fully recovered, as of October 2017. However, on May 5th 2018, My mom returned to the hospital via the ER. Several hours later, and the doctors told her she had cancer in her liver, stomach lining, and potentially her lungs. She tried another round of chemotherapy, and spent the next eight days throwing up. She elected to not continue treatment. She was in so much pain. Eventually, she passed away on August 1st, 2018, at the age of 47, leaving behind a 16 year old daughter, an 11 year old daughter, and loving husband.
After her death, we tried our best to continue on with our lives. We managed for six months. Then, another tragedy struck. On March 10th, 2019, my dad suffered an Ischemic Stroke, caused by a blockage in one of the blood vessels in his brain. At some point, his stroke turned into a hemorrhagic stroke, as his brain started to bleed. The stroke damaged the left side of my father’s brain, thereby impairing his speech, and memory, as well as paralyzing the right side. At this point, I was now 17 years old, and my little sister was 12 years old. Following three months in the hospital, my father was moved to Courage Kenny, where he has been recovering since. Hopefully, he will be moving back home in mid-October. I am just starting my freshman year at the University of Minnesota and my sister just began 7th grade. Sadly, my father still has a long road ahead to his recovery. This tragedy will affect his ability to work, drive, and perform everyday tasks for several more months, to a few years for him to recover to his full capacity.
I have started this GoFundMe Campaign to help our family with medical expenses, bills, groceries, college tuition for me, school expenses for Cate, saving for college for Cate, and other miscellaneous expenses that may occur. We hope that this campaign will help to alleviate some of our financial burdens so my father can continue his recovery with minimal stress. Thank you for all of your support. I will keep you posted on his progress through updates on this page. Please check back often, and please share our story with your friends and family on social media, or via email, or word of mouth. The more people who know about my father’s situation, the more good vibes, and prayers, will come his way. Once again, thank you for your time, thoughts, and donations. With Love, Tara and the rest of the Detailleurs
