Help for the D’Alimonte Family

The friends and coworkers of our hygienist, Nicole, at LaSalle Dental are looking to help her family during a difficult time. Nicole’s daughter, Abby, is an 8-year-old, fun, loving child who had her world completely changed in May 2022 when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Abby hadn’t been feeling well and was suffering from headaches. Her parents took her for an eye exam and had their world turned up side down when Abby was sent to an eye specialist who admitted her to the hospital. After an MRI showed a brain tumour, Abby was transferred to Sick Children’s Hospital in London, Ontario, where an amazing team of nurses and doctors took great care of Abby and her parents. This was Abby’s first surgery where the surgeons tried to remove the tumour. Unfortunately, due to the location and type of tumour, it couldn’t be completely removed. On Friday, June 24, 2022, Abby’s parents received the devastating news of the diagnosis. Abby has diffuse midline gliomas harbouring the H3 K27M mutation. Due to the tumour, Abby has experienced swelling on her brain which inhibited her ability to walk. Abby had a second surgery at the end of June 2022 to place a shunt to help relieve the swelling. So far, this has been successful as Abby is able to walk with the help of a walker. Nicole and her family will have to make numerous trips to London for treatment. Due to these trips, they will be missing work so we are asking for donations to help them with the cost of gas, accommodations and food.
